| Reasons
to Support Farm Shops
Where does the food we buy come
from and how is it produced?
Consumers are increasingly demanding higher quality and greater diversity
in the food they buy. Farmers need to grasp the opportunities this
offers to add value to their products. This can be done through both
branding products to promote and strengthen their local or regional
identity, promoting the importance of a clean and healthy environment
for the quality of the product and finding new markets or uses for
existing products.
Selling direct to consumers is one way of doing this and is becoming
increasingly popular and successful through farmers' markets (there
are now over 300 up and running throughout the country). Other approaches
include farm shops, organic box schemes and postal and internet sales.
CPRE is a national charity which helps people to protect their local
countryside where there is a threat, to enhance it where there is opportunity,
and to keep it beautiful, productive and enjoyable for everyone.
